HD Clutch Release Bearing

PostPost by: LCRJ » Sat May 06, 2023 2:01 pm

Hi all,
I have obtained a product known as the HD clutch release bearing.
The left side of the photo is standard and the right side is HD, but the material of the inner ring does not seem to be metal.
If you have used this HD type, please let me know what you think.
Incidentally, the inner diameter of the Standard is 34.5 mm and the HD is 35.3 mm.
I don't have a good impression of loose bearings, what do you think?

Regards,
Hiro :D

What's the part number of the RHP bearing you have ? (It should be printed on the box ends).
If it finishes in RS, then that means Rubber Seal, and that's the bit you're saying doesn't look like metal. If the inside diameter is not the same as the original, then it's the wrong bearing, and shouldn't be fitted.
.It will rattle around and do damage to the bearing carrier surface.

The RHP bearing is the original standard bearing used by Ford / Lotus now called the "heavy duty" bearing by some. I have used them for many years without issues when I have been able to source NOS one like you appear to have got also. The bearing on the left is the cheap non name indian made copy called the "standard" bearing by some. They have proved unreliable and of varying quailty, some last, some do not.

The beaing is suppossed to be a light push fit onto the carrier where the metal section meets the slightly raised section on the carrier base.

The box appears to be printed 6/W 1 3/8 ALVANIA R3?(last letter unknown). The body is stamped ENGLAND 6/W 1 3/8.
This is the first time I have found out that these are HD as they are genuine Ford and Lotus parts.
The one on the left is not stamped with anything. I have been using this one and have had no problems with it, but for some reason it turns lightly when pressed against the CARRIER and becomes heavier when released.
As you say, the base of the carrier is tapered so it fits even if the inside diameter is a bit larger.
Thank you.
