5 speed 5th/reverse detent plunger installation advice

PostPost by: Mark Hendry » Tue Feb 07, 2023 5:17 am

When changing my transmission oil today I mistakenly undid the dome head plug rather than the hex drain plug. Oops.

The spring and plunger (I think for the reverse/5th selector) then fell out.

Can anyone advise on which way the plunger goes back in? It has a flat end and a cone shaped end and I'm not sure which end goes against the spring and which goes into the gearbox casing first.

I've been careful not to disturb anything else just incase that could make reassembly difficult.

Cone shape up, flat at bottom. While your there add an extra copper washer under the nut to make it easier to get out of 5th.
