U joint greases

PostPost by: loueelotus » Mon Jan 02, 2023 12:36 am

I wonder what is a good grease to pack my u joint because looking on-line there are many comments on the best.. With a Lotus Elans S2 I want to make sure.. Some say Moly other say Lithium and other Synthetic.. For an old classic car I would like to know..
Thanks,
Lou

Lou,
Since 1969 I've been pumping ordinary Shell Retinax into them without trouble.

I decided to have my UJs replaced a few months ago, simply because I had the prop shaft out and they had served for over 280,000 miles. There wasn't a lot wrong with them so I wouldn't worry what you use.

The manual specifies Multi Purpose Grease. I don’t see any reason to anything else. Maybe a synthetic multi purpose grease?
