First can someone tell me the weight of:
MM CV Driveshafts please.
Also the weight of Driveshafts with UJs.
Last question on the MM CV Driveshafts are the "Caphead Screws" holding the assembly together Loctited to stop them coming undone.
Thanks in advance

Not at all. In fact the recent problem a friend has had confirms my unwavered use of Rotoflexes.
However my friend has fitted MM CVs to his plus two.
So to return to the subject do you have any answers to my questions please:
Weights of both options for a plus two.
Plus should the socket head allen scews be Loctited.
I'm trying to help a friend that's all.

I can't provide weight info, but I use blue loctite on the CV joint cap screws. Have never had them loosen.
I should add I've never NOT used blue loctite, so can't confirm if the loctite is actually required.

Hi Steve,
many thanks. The friend who fitted MM CV Driveshafts to his +2S had the Drive come apart.
It seems 5 of the 6 Cap screws unscewed leaving only 1 in place. The remaining cap screw then got bent when the Drive Shaft flopped about. bringing the +2S to a stop.
Lucky the +2S was only being driven slowly at the time and no damage to Suspension, Chassis or Body.
My thoughts are the Cap screws were not Loctited or they were retightened more after the Loctite had hardened/set. Which of course breaks the Loctite seal as if there was no Loctite in the first place.
One extra question is are MM CV Driveshafts balanced.
Do they need to be dismantled at the Cap screws to fit them to the Car.
I imagine you just remove the Scews holding the Wishbone to Chapman. To let the Chapman swing out to put the MM CV driveshafts in place.
many thanks for ideas

Always use capscrews sourced from a reputable supplier - eg. Unbrako. A lot of capscrews are sourced from China and who knows what the correct grade of them is. If they are overstretched they will come loose same as if they are undertorqued. The torque figure should be as per the grade of capscrew and the thread size. The standard torque figure may be too low if the cap screw used is a higher grade than the fastener that was used originally

100% they must be high tensile + Loctite + wirelocked.
Thanks guys

Quality High tensile head socket head bolts with a hardened washer under, properly torqued with loctite and I have had no problems with the CV bolts in 40 years on both the Elan and Plus 2, Wiring the bolts is probably not needed but adds certainty if you want

A Porsche / machinist friend recommended Schnorr washers. Only time will tell on how they work.

Can the Lobro CV be assembled the wrong way round.
That's to say are the Lobro CVs symmetric or asymmetric.
It seems when the Kelvendon/MM CVs were on my friends +2 that the left one had lots of "endfloat" but right one a little "endfloat".
I think the "endfloat" is controled by the Circlips at the Driveshaft ends.
Does anyone have some ideas please.
Thanks
Alan

Bravo Kelvendon service super top 100%.
Repairs to CV Drive Shaft Gratis.
It's the second time seen this problem in 10 years according to Marc.
Problem fixed.

The end float of the CV itself is controlled by the CV design geometry. Without knowing the source of the CV I can't comment on the symmetry question. I will say that the VW CV joints have a step on the OD and will only fit one way round. Since there is a designed min and max length of the driveshaft assembly based on the amount of plunge each CV has it may be worth checking if the distance between diff and hub spider is different side to side on your friends +2.

iirc the Miller CVs are GKN Ford Granada items; I believe that Susan had a bad batch some years ago (can't remember when or how many). Also I think that mine have Schnorr-type washers fitted. There is no need to dismantle the shaft assembly to fit them, just get the suspension out of the way.
As for wire-locking the cap screws, the caps are pot hard and I can't imagine how one could drill them to fit the wire.
