What transmission is this 1?

PostPost by: zog » Sun Aug 15, 2021 4:03 pm

I'm trying to clean out some heavy stuff. Can anyone help me identify what transmission this is? If you need it, let me know $150 plus shipping US.

Thanks!

It’s either late Mk2 Cortina or early Ford Capri (Mercury in the US) . Can’t tell whether it’s Capri or Cortina without measuring the length of the input shaft. Capri is slightly longer. Can have either standard or semi close ratios. Same family as 2000e box.

I used to strip down old Cortinas for parts. So this is probably a late model Cortina trans........

I'd agree that it's a late Mk2 Cortina GT or 1600E series 2, or Capri gearbox. but it's a single rail, not really the same family as the 3 rail 2000E / Mexico / Escort TC / RS1600 box as the castings are completely different compared with the 3-rail.
Current :- Elan S3 DHC SE S/S 1968,
1963 Alfa Giulia Ti Super Rep.
Previous :-
Elan S3 DHC SE SS 1968,
Elan S3 DHC S/E 1966
Elan S3 FHC Pre-Airflow 1966

It's a development of the 2000E (or more correctly the great grandad 105E Anglia) three rail box. Apart from the shift mechanism itself the internals are 90% the same. All the gears (except reverse idler if memory serves correctly) can be used in the 2000E box. Layshaft is the same as well as the bearings.

Ford did a cost down exercise in developing the single rail and a very successful one at that. It's at least as good as the three rail in terms of shift quality and uses a lot less parts.
