Lotus 5-speed bell-housing rumour

PostPost by: vernon.taylor » Sun Apr 12, 2015 5:37 pm

Salut

Heard from a garage guy in Clermont Ferrand who heard from another (don't know where) that someone in Blighty is going to make a run of Lotus 5-speed bell-housings - anyone heard a similar rumour ?

The garage guy mods Elite tail-housings to fit the Elan/+2.

Might be this man here: http://www.alanvoigtsgearboxes.co.uk/

I've been running his T9 conversion since 2004 :)

Just happened to be talking to Alan Voigts this afternoon to order a replacement selector plunger unit, fitted to the top cover on the T9 conversion, and which very awkwardly needs to be removed/ replaced with the gearbox in situ when removing the engine/gb unit in the Plus 2, as it fouls the transmission tunnel.

He tells me they have now side-mounted this unit by drilling the casing, and curing the fitting problem. This drilling is done on a jig to ensure accuracy.

So I will be sending him my casing for this mod at the next opportunity :)

But you did not answer the question, is he making replacement Bellhousings for the Lotus 5 speed gearbox?

Salut Gordon

Auto Passion, I think:

... have to check with the French mate who's doing the negotiating. They refurbed his Lotus 5-speed 'box and are apparently quite knowledgable. They've also just installed a Lotus 5-speed in an Elan, so hopefully they're in good practice for ours. As a matter of interest they modded an Elite tailhousing to suit the Elan chassis.

Spoke to Alan this morning, absolutely no plan to manufacture Lotus 5-speed bell-housings.
