Diff query?

Hello All,
I am now at the stage of fitting the diff into my new chassis. It fits in fine which is great, but before I filled it with oil I thought I would give a quick check and turn the shafts. When I flicked round the output shafts they felt quite rumbly but I thought when the oil was in, it would be better. It was better, but now I'm paranoid about just accepting it and wonder if this is normal spider gear noise due to the shafts contra-rotating. When I turn the input flange all seems good, but I can't turn it fast enough to know how good. The diff was overhauled by a well known company, but I always wonder how much work is done once you pay for a sealed up unit
Usual parts used - seals, bearings, crush washer etc. But how well set up - who knows?
Any thoughts greatly appreciated.
Kev.

Kev, I get nervous about the amount of play in the output shafts whenever I change the doughnuts (e.g. last week) but then remember that the differential bevel gears are "straight-cut" rather than helical like the CWP and are not preloaded ether. So I think you are hearing the relatively coarse bevel gears, as you postulated.
I would fit it and trust your supplier, he's got a reputation to lose.

I had the same worry with mine. Very 'notchy' if pinion held still and an output shaft rotated. I checked a spare English diff I have for another car and that was also notchy, but less so. I had the diff looked at and the thrust washers were adjusted which reduced the notchyness but it is still very evident. Fitted the diff, it has now run for maybe 500miles and all seems well.
