Clutch Master Cylinder Type

PostPost by: William2 » Thu Feb 06, 2014 5:46 pm

I have just bought a new (old stock) clutch master cylinder from an Ebay trader. He says it is suitable for Lotus Elans and although not a Girling part it is UK manufactured. It has 3/4" stamped on the outside of the reservoir and I have checked the mounting hole centres which are 2 1/4" apart. Does this sound suitable for the job?

I believe it should be a 5/8" bore. I'm sure someone will be along to correct or confirm shortly!

That's what I thought. All the external dimensions of this ms seem to be the same as the original one. Being a slightly larger bore I wonder if it would affect the operation of the clutch?

It'll make the clutch harder to push.
