My gearbox

a few questions:

1. what is the going rate I coudl expect to sell my +2 5 speed gearbox when I remove it from the car?

2. how much is a replacement gearbox - more modern if poss?

3. what are the symptoms of low gearbox oil?

I replaced my Maxi box with an Alan Voigts which is a type 9 5 speed from a Sierra. The ratios are almost the same as the original, and the conversion was relatively straightforward. A number of us on the forum have the same conversion so you should be able to get opinions from a few of us - my car iis still being restored - the box looks very shiny but I've never driven it.

It cost ?1500 ex vat.

The maxi box should be worth ?450+ depending on condition and extras like a prop shaft etc.
