Clutch kit prices!

Hi Guys,
Where do you get you clutches from for an Elan +2..?
I have had widely varying quotes which range from:
?50-200 for a 3 part clutch kit.
They are all 210 mm 20 spline.
The ?50 was for a kit from a guy at the kit car show last weekend. It was bundled as a Cortina GT clutch and no information on make
I have also had a quote for ?110 for a kit minus the thrust bearing. The cover is Borg and Beck and the disc is a recon unit, this is from a Cortina LTC specialist
The third quote for ?210 is for an uprated kit, again from a Cortina LTC specialist.
Paul Matty seems to come in at around ?210, again for an uprated as they don?t seem to have any standard kits in stock.
I resent spending ?210 on a clutch, but would this be a false economy.
Cheers
Tim

Tim,
Which flywheel are you using, the T.C. or the 711 ?
The XFlow Cortina and T.C. have different clutches, the pcd of the clutch plate bolts are different and the XFlow being cable operated has a different release bearing.
I have never seen a 210mm clutch plate, Lotus used 8" (200mm) on the 4 speed and 8.5"(216mm) on the 5speed.
All the XFlow Cortina's I have seen used a 216mm and the Escort 190mm, an other thing to bear in mind is if using the 216mm Cortina pressure plate and XFlow f/wheel the chances are that the p/plate will catch inside the bellhousing as it is much broader then the Borg & Beck pressure plate.

I was aiming to use the twink flywheel on the 711m crank.
My thoughts where that this would make sorting out clutch etc simpler, but now I am confused.
Did the lotus cortina use the same clutch as the elan?
and was that an 8" (200mm) clutch?
Cheers

Using the T.C. f/wheel would be the best solution and as far as I know the Lotus Cortina did use the 8" clutch (same as 4sp Elan)
If you get a kit for a Lotus Cortina or Elan that will be O.K. but dont get a kit for a XFlow Cortina as the pressure plate will not fit the T.C. f/wheel.

Hmmmm. I guess they don't know what they are talking about..

The text below is from page two of the "Lotus Cortina Story" see the link
QUOTE:
"The Lotus Cortina used a 8.0in diaphragm-spring clutch whereas Ford fitted coil spring clutch's to the rest of the range. The rest of the gearbox was identical to the Elan. This led to a few problems because the ultra-close gear ratio's were perfect for the race track or open road, but the clutch was given a hard time in traffic, so the ratios were later changed".
