Heater and choke control cables

So the time has come to install the push / pull cables for Choke and Heater control, but.......

The gap behind the dashboard between the back of the dash and the heater matrix box is about 50mm ( 2") - but the straight "tube part" on the cables ( the bit with the threaded part ) is 80mm long - how on earth does this get to work????

The. Hoke cable is not too bad because it's a Bowden multi strand inner that's reasonably flexible, just about capable of turning 90 degrees to miss the heater box, but the single wire inner for the heater is impossible.

I've been through all the obvious scenarios, like leave the heater valve fully open and make the knob a dummy one, but can't believe any of the early cars ever had operating controls for these functions - anybody have any advice how to install them so they work???

I have refitted the dashboard on my Elan S4 a couple of times and not really had any issues, however my question to you is how many holes do you have in the bulkhead and which one are you trying to thread your cable through. If it helps go onto Youtube and put in Elan Engine Bay, which will bring up a series of photos from which you may get a clue as to whhere in the bulkead the cable passes.

But we need to know which model you have to be of more help

Tony, thanks for the reply. I don't think you've read the description correctly , the issue is not where the cable goes through the bulkhead, but the clearance between the metal heater box tinware and the back of the dashboard.

There seems precious little clearance (to start bending the cable to route it to the holes in the bulkhead 18"away), BETWEEN THE BACK OF THE DASH AND HEATER BOX.

I've shortened the solid tube part of the cable next to the fixing nut securing it into the dash board. This has helped.

The car in question is an Elan S2.
