Interior Floor Finishing and Painting

PostPost by: McFast » Sun Sep 22, 2024 4:31 pm

Hi,

The interior floor and tunnel of my car (Elan S3 FHC) is pretty ugly and looks very dirty and messy.

What’s the best way to finish off the floor just to make it look less ugly !

Should I fill and skim the interior to smooth it out or just paint with a primer ?

Interested in ideas and options.

A light sanding might do. You're probably looking at remnants of the jute sound deadening
material. When that stuff gets pulled up, there's always 'leftovers' stuck to the glue.

Hi Douglas,

I was going to say the same - sand and optionally paint with some satin black or similar. Watch your fingers on gfrp shards if you're doing it by hand!

Cheers

I used a wire brush on my angle grinder, very quick and easy but wear a mask!

My question would be why do much at all with the floor other than clean it?
Presumably you are going to cover it up anyway with a lightweight underfelt prior to fitting carpet.
Don't put that heavyweight sound deading stuff, like Dynamat, down on it though. It is totally unecessary and far to heavy!
Keep the car as lightweight as possible whatever you do.
