Got this seal from Wilkins. One side has a wide opening, the other a bit smaller one. Which should go to the glass, which to the frame?

The rubber seal for the S1 and S2 Elans is the same or very similar to that on our Climax Type 14 Elites. The larger opening is for the window glass. I have installed dozens of Elite windows over the years at my little Lotus hobby shop. Cheers. Mike, the Club Elite Secretary, Tech guy and World Registrar since 1980. I have 5 Elites.

The rubber is almost a universal design. I have found its use in any number of vehicles. It is used in my S2 Elan, Sabra GT, Elva Coupe an my old 78 Chevy truck.. There is a difference in its moulding between a steel bodied car and a fiber glass unit, in that the groove for the body comes in two different widths. The fiber glass part has a wider body groove than the steel based vehicle. The widest groove is for the glass. They all use the same locking strip.
