Tool to fit filler strip in windscreen rubber

PostPost by: Colwise8 » Sat Sep 09, 2023 11:03 am

Hi All, I want to replace the filler strip in the front windscreen rubber. I believe their is a special tool available. Anybody know where I can purchase on?
Or perhaps a sketch to make one? (Although I believe it may be plastic).
Any help/advice welcome to a new Elan Sprint owner!
Many thanks Colin

Widely available tools, for example:

....you need loads of lubrication too - washing up liquid works great

There should be a picture of the tool in the owners manual. My dad made one according to that 40 years ago, and I'll use it soon for my Elan screen. John

Piece of a wire coat-hanger and a handle for a rasp or file.

I’ve done this job twice in the last few weeks, and got a couple of tools in afvance. I found it easier to use a plastic spudger. Put one edge of the strip under the seal lip, use the edge of the spudger to lift the opposite seal lip while pushing the strip in with your thumb. Takes about 5 minutes to do the entire strip.
