Plus 2 - Air Vent Finishing

PostPost by: Gazzerb » Mon May 15, 2023 1:21 pm

I am looking for advice please on the original finishing of the cast alloy vents fitted to the scuttle top & B posts on the Plus 2 - later ones, if there is any difference.
My original vents were vapour blasted many years ago and any clues about their original finish lost.
I have seen some cars with them left as natural 'silver' alloy all over and some where they are finished in satin or gloss black but with the top edges of the fins polished back to alloy. Assume all of the as cast surfaces are painted black in this case?
Couple of snaps included as reference.

Regards
Gary

My car, at seven years old, were as you have described with the as cast surfaces black and the machined surfaces polished. As far as "original", I'm not totally sure.
I've never seen them chromed on a +2.

Had my car since 89 and they were natural and yes, I don’t think I ever chromed, Gordon

Thanks for the responses so far.
As ever there may not be a 'definitive' outcome but please feel free to add further suggestions.

I think they were satin back on the rear and in the groves but with the front face polished metal.
