Door locks - S3/early Plus 2

PostPost by: jono » Mon May 08, 2023 4:54 pm

Both of my door locks lack keys and I am wondering if new ones can be obtained, or is it a case of having to buy new barrels and keys - and, if so, where from?

I've removed a barrel expecting to see a key number on it but there is no identifying mark to suit it with a key.

Are these the usual Wilmot Breeden stuff?

Cheers

They are early Austin / Morris / Wolseley / Riley / MG / Vanden Plas 1100 handles Jon.

This chap may have what you need. Make sure he knows you need the locks or complete handles for the earlier car, with locks built into the handle.

Thanks Mark - I managed to obtain some really nice almost NOS handles off Ebay a while back so jut sneed to source keys which I think are WB 'FS' series but the markings in the handles don't seem to tally to known numbers.

TBG - these are on a '68 Plus 2, so no open air driving!

Try autojumbles, always a stall with a display cabinet full of Wilmot Breeden keys.
I haven’t got a key for my +2 glovebox so will be at Tatton show looking for a FS ??? Key.
I have removed the glovebox door which makes searching a lot easier.

Hope it helps, Les.

According to this old thread viewtopic.php?f=16&t=7460 there was only ever 14 different key numbers during the Austin 1100 production run. Should make it a bit easier to find some suitable keys. I need to repair/replace a latch on my S3 which is why I recently found the old thread.

When I bought my Elan to restore the locks and keys did not appear to match, or at least they were worn enough not to work. Via another thread on this site I contacted Arun Locks https://www.arun-locks.co.uk who efficiently sorted it all out, including making a matching set of keys for doors and boot (trunk) locks. Maybe worth giving them a try.

I have no affiliation to Arun Locks other than having been a satisfied customer.
