S3 coupe new doors

PostPost by: dgym » Thu Mar 16, 2023 5:26 am

Hi All,
I truly believe my car has the worst fitting doors of any of the worst S3 Coupes. They don't just stick out at the bottom rear corner, but also at the top curve near the "elan coupe" badge.
In addition to this the door is buckled in such a way that the window frame is around 10mm away from the seal at the front corner.
SO, I just spent several months attempting to rebuild the driver's side door, cutting it and attempting to get it to the correct shape and then re-glassing it. It does fit better and the window frame does seal now but the main body of the door still wants to kink outward.
I'm coming to the conclusion that this door just really doesn't want to fit the car and it's a huge waste of time fighting it.

I wanted to ask if anyone had purchased new doors and if the fit was ok? I'm in Australia and shipping would be pretty hefty but i feel like I'm just wasting my life away trying to get these to fit right.

any experience with replacement doors and where you got them would be super helpful.
cheers!

In in Sydney pls give me a call. 0412975932
I’ve imported shells and repaired them here. Always managed to sort the fit out. Been messing around with Elans for 40 years now…

I weighted my doors in a clamp, added some glass

I tried to reinforce where electric motor acts on door skin
