Boot Lock S3 - Removing the lock core

PostPost by: DamianB » Sat Jan 28, 2023 1:25 pm

Can anyone share some advice on how to remove the lock core from an S3 boot lock?

I am trying to harmonise keys across all locks and struggling to remove the core from the boot lock. It seems to be held in place by a split collar that looks / acts like a circlip, but seems too thick to spring out like a normal circlip. I don't want to risk breaking it.

Many thanks

Thank you Len,
I cannot see any roll pin. Do I need to remove the chromed fixing collar (which I am struggling with) first to get to the pin?

Rite I found it ! Forget the chrome ring at the base that’s the handle now there is a C clip then a washer and then another C clip and last a brass ring when that’s of you’ll see a tiny pin push that out it hold a square block that comes out after small pin is removed , You must have the key in to pull the barrel out I didn’t have a key but did a search on this site and its an FS880 key £2.50 on eBay You’ll need small screw driver or a pointy thing to work the C clips out just find the gap and lift an end up and work it around Hope it’s helped Len. They are a very rare item

You can see them in your picture behind that chrome stub sticking down a little short thing. Len

Job done.

In case somebody else struggles as I did, here is a picture of the dismantled parts.

To dismantle, you first need to remove the C Clip. I tried with circlip pliers, but found it easiest to remove, tyre lever style, with a set of mini screwdrivers.

Next drift out the small brass pin, which releases the lock core

Hope that helps

Damian, the handle looks good. Did you have it chromed?

Yes, I did have it chromed, together with the Mazak surrounds to my S3 rear light units, and plating a bunch of parts from my webers, by CE Designs https://www.ce-design.co.uk/services/electro-plating/ of Folkestone, Kent. Not cheap, and took some weeks, but they did a lovely job.
