Sprint windscreen seal

PostPost by: alan.barker » Thu Sep 08, 2022 12:45 pm

I would like to know who sells the correct windscreen seal.
That is one piece and "correct corner angles".
I see Kelvendon say they have the correct seal for a Sprint.
Can someone confirm it is correct please.
Cheers

I can tell you Sue Miller is having another batch made. They were on 6 week lead time when I asked mid August. Not sure about being the correct angle but my body shop will only use those supplied by Sue.

I purchased and fitted the one piece "formed" seal last month from Sue for my S4. It came with 90 degree corners and when I queried this with Sue, she said that is what she supplies. She had previously asked her supplier to correct the corner angles but was told that this would need new tooling which it seems they are not willing to manufacture. On fitting mine the inside join at both corners tore due to the strain of trying to mold to the correct angle of the windscreen and frame. I'll fill this with sealer for now as I'll be carrying out a full restoration in a couple of years and if a correct seal cannot be found by then I'll just use a length of seal and mitre the corners to the correct angle, same for the filler strip, this to me would look better overall. The filler strip for now did go in ok in one piece with the join in the middle of the screen. A bit disappointed as I assumed the "formed" seal would be correct.

Hi Chris,
many thanks for the photo BUT it doesn't look the correct angle to me. Not 100° and not sitting correct.
What a great shame the suppliers can't get this right.
I am thinking of a refresh of the paintwork on my Sprint but only if i can get a correct 100° seal before.
Imho if when a car is repainted and Windscreen refitted without new correct seals it spoils the final result.
I'll try to phone Kelvendon to ask what angle their Windscreen seals are.

Just sent email to Kelvendon to ask what Angle their windscreen seal is for a Sprint is.
If it's 90° which is no good.
It must be 100°.
If it costs more to make correctly so be it.

It was difficult to get the screen in. I had the resort to swarfega and plastic trim tools.
The locking strip is one piece with joint in centre of screen - I did wonder if it should have separate locking trim in each lower corner at you can see there is a gap

Sue’s reply when I asked her about the mitre angle was that her supplier’s tooling was for 90deg and changing it to say 100deg would be too expensive for the quantities involved. I can’t imagine the tooling is that complicated!

There isn't a seperate trim in the corners, but the miter is definitely greater than a 90 degree angle. Not saying mine is perfect, but I think the fit is better:

Hi Phil,
very nice and where did you get that from. I'd like a seal like that.

Ok,
So what if you cut mitres in the corners the correct angle.
How do you vulcanise the corners.
It's no good just a butt joint that will shrink.
If the suppliers only have 90° wrong angle we need to tell them to throw their stock in the Trash. Get the Tooling corrected.

I have used Loctite 480 in the past to join rubber.

thanks C42,
for l'info.
I just received a reply from Kelvendon that they don't know the angle of bottom corners of Windscreen Seal i think is a bit light.
I asked if it is 90° or 100°(correct angle). You would think they can check it out wouldn't you.
If the price jumps from £75 + vat to £100 + vat because of new Tooling we'll live with that.
But it must be correct please.
Sorry for my rant but i like to do the job correctly.

I sent second mail to Kelvendon to ask them to check angle. No reply so their Windscreen Seal must be wrong also.
