It was interesting having googled images of Plus 2 to notice that a very high percentage of cars don’t have door mounted mirrors. I suppose one gets so used of driving modern cars where I, at least, make much use of a door/overtaking mirror that it would be strange not to have one. That said, given the small amount of use the car is likely to have and the problems associated with mounting a mirror, ie ensuring that stress marks don’t appear in the paintwork, then perhaps it’s simpler not to fit anything.

If to be mounted, a very light mirror would have my preference as the door skin does not have any reinforcement to hold the weight of a heavy one. I've resintalled the plastic Sebring Mach (the smaller version - a spun aluminium one with a light mount would fit that requirement, too) on my S4 as it appeared original, but barely use it in practice (it has a flat mirror, but I'm not sure a convex one would enhance significantly the scope of view due to the geometry). I had sourced an other one for the passenger side but did not install it eventually, no holes on this side on my car and viewing geometry is even worse). As mentioned above, I always look around before changing direction, like when riding a motorcycle (many similarities in the driving experience: low visibility, vulnerability, hability to switftly move to the front...).
As for racing, I've seen a number of racers using an add-on panoramic mirror instead of the stock one, which would enlarge the field of view to the sides to some extent (though looking like a taxi-cab) - I suppose this also depends on one's driving habits and the frequency at which ones checks the mirror to know at all times what it coming from the rear...

I use these on my cars, they look period and work well. I hear the comments regarding that they are not necessary and spoil the look, but I prefer the amenity they give.

No issues with vibration, the Tex mirrors are actually quite light weight. The are secured via the expanding plastic mount (akin to two rawl screws), if you were worried about the security of the mount they could be bolted on with a reinforcing plate on the inner side but that’s probably overkill. Only installation advice would be not to mount too far forward, positioning is a little sensitive to the view through the quarter light.

I ordered passenger side mirrors with convex glass twice, but for some reason they both shipped with flat glass installed. I ended up buying a replacement convex mirror glass locally that I fitted into the Tex housing. The passenger side is not really needed anyway, but I liked the look with two mirrors.
Mind you, the ones above posted by Spyder Fan and sabot would probably provide a better view.
