REAR BOOT FLOOR

MY +2 never came with boot floor covering spare wheel, so we made something that works.

I would appreciate any photos of how the framing to hold up floor has been done on other +2's

If you have further questions or pictures of your floor, suggest adding to the earlier thread and it will pull it forward in the forum and keep all the topic info together.

I really like the addition of ~1/2” battens to the perimeter of the floor, which adds more clearance for a modern battery size. I posted some pictures.

May I jump in please with a realted question?

Would any of you, who are running with 165/80R13 tyres on a +2, please tell me:

1. If your LH boot floor is sitting squarely on its mountigs (without using added battens)? and
2. Do you have felt on the floor underneath the spare wheel?

I think clearance for the stock sized 165/80R13 spare tire was one of the reasons I added the perimeter battens. Will be interesting to see if anyone has got it to work without them. I gave felts installed.

Even with my floor raised, two standard carry-on (22” x 14” x 9”) Rollers will fit side by side. Be a bit careful with the 22” dimension as it is tight; mine fits but I deleted the hardboard that covers the rear bulkhead and tail light housings. The handle of the Roller is so tight against the tail light housings I was worried the wiring would be damaged, so hoping to not use Rollers in the car in the future.

I just finished getting my spare wheel sorted yesterday. Its a 175/70r3 on 5" elan wheel. I've placed a thin (1/8") pieces of boot carpet under it and it is very close to level, maybe raises the boards 1/8" of an inch at the rear bracket unloaded.

My boards are custom made one by me out of 1/4" ply, with some ribs 1/4" thick ribs added. It seems the ribs happen to be correctly place to not interfere with the tire at is high point. The boards and place on standard style/height backet setup.
'73 +2 130/5 RHD, now on the road and very slowly rolling though a "restoration"

I have no felt underneath and with the spare 165/80/13 tyre inflated the wooden floor does not sit down firmly on the mountings and therefore rattles around a bit. At the moment I am running around with an underinflated spare tyre and a foot pump until I fix some thin battens on top of the mounting points!

OK, this morning I had the spare tyre changed for a 160/80R13 - pretty basic cheap one that they had in stock, but it will stay as a spare as the wheel it is on has suffered a suspension collaps at some stage in its life.

Fit with the felt underneath is not good, but with the felt removed, a 'snug' fit. a few pices of three ply on the mounts solves the problem. Then I notice that there is a slight dip in the floorboard that contributed in part to the poor fit.

Looking at the floor under the wheel, the felt appears to be a new addition, so I think/guess the car left the factory without felt...
