1965 Elan Floor Carpet

I am restoring a 65 Elan and decided to cut my own carpets. Currently have most of it completed but am not sure how it fits under the seats because of the sunken floor between the seat rails. Has anyone any recommendations on the best/easiest way to do it?
I thought of making a plywood panel to fit between the seat rails, to make it level but would like to follow how it was done originally. My old carpets were binned many years ago.
Thanks

Hope I'm not treading on your toes Rob, but if it helps here are some of my photos when I fitted the rubber hide mats to my S2. Does that help?
I did have a bit of a problem finding an adhesive that worked, and my kit came ready cut out from the US, so no real issues. There is an underfelt too

Thanks to both of you, your installations look really nice.
A couple of questions:
Does your carpet run under the seat rails?
Is it wrapped over the the edges where it goes into the trough or is that just painted?
Looks like I may not have bought enough carpet as there is a lot of waste, although I probably should have made all the paper patterns first then I could have moved them around to get the most efficient use.
Thanks

The other problem I have is the plastic centre console disintegrated when I removed it and I have emailed Sue Miller as I know she has fibreglass copies but she has not replied to my email so I was wondering if anyone knows if she is still open?

Yes, Sue is still open. She is trying to work four days a week now. Try again Monday.

We both used the US JAE rubber mat kits, they are pre-cut.
As you can see from the photos, the mat runs under the rear of the seat rails but not the front.
The mat rolls over the the trough and is held in place with the seat frame.

here is a picture of my series 1 with the seat frame in place. I used the JAE kit as well and the floor mats are captured in the front and rear troughs but don't extend far enough to the rear to be held by the angle seat rail supports. With the seat in place the rear of the mat can not be seen unless you look closely under the seat. If you are making carpets I would make then longer to extend more rearward. Gary
