Windscreen tie rod.

PostPost by: davidj » Thu Nov 05, 2020 9:40 am

Good morning,

Please could someone do me a big favour and send me a pic of the area where the windscreen tie rod connects to the skuttle. Assembling my car, using the original fixing hole, the new rod is pushing back the crash pad and leaving a significant gap to the windscreen seal which looks crude. However, this may be normal. The car is a S3, but I guess this area was the same for all the later cars.

Ta,

David

I think it's normal, albeit, "significant gap" is open to question.
We are supposed to be having fun, are we not?

Is this classed as normal or significant? :-) As I bought the car in bits and all that was left of the original rod was the washer and stud still fixed into the skuttle, I have no idea of the fit tolerance.

Cheers

Something doesn`t look right to me.
On mine the tie rod does not push back the crash pad. It presses down on the top of it making a depression at that point.
The tie rod is a 5mm one from Sue Miller.
On yours, I cannot make out where it is fitted.
Hoping to help

Thanks Eric.

It is the original crashpad and very stiff, Heating it with a hot air gun made it more flexible and fit better around the (Sue Miller) tie rod.

Cheers,

PS. Hope all is well in Burnley!

Hi David,
I hope it helped.
All is well in Burnley, but now you have an advantage on me. you know or can find out where Burnley is.
Think pennine moors, small villages and the occasional manufacturing town.
Now where are you as there is no entry on your heading ?. Give us a clue, maybe just a continent or even a hemisphere.
Keep going with the car it is the best one of the range.

Hi Eric. You obviously forget my memorable visit just before the (first) lockdown. Come over to see my progress on the s3 in Ilkley when we can get out and about again.

Cheers,
