S2 Door restoration

PostPost by: sclemow » Tue Sep 15, 2020 2:11 pm

Hi

I'm sorry that this is probably a repeat of questions, however I haven't managed to find the answers, with searches.

I've a few questions :

1. Does anyone know where I can source the seal between the door window frame and the windscreen frame?

2. There seems to be a lot of different opinions on the window runner felt runners, I was thinking of using this, does anyone have experience?

3. Does anyone have any advice on the steel solid rivets used to hold the front window channel together? I was wondering if this can be done at home, and if so what tools are required?

4. Finally, apparently there are two door seals, a weather seal and a draught seal. Where do these start and finish?

Thank you all for help in advance.

Cheers

I am also now working on doors.

1) I got seals from RD, and I think they are pretty generic. Same for the cantrails as for the hardtop, it appears.

2) My runners came from TTR along with lightweight window frame bits. They appear otherwise identical to the steel and brass. Take car to assemble the runners with an approximate 1/8" gap to allow for the door card to slip in.

3) I used aluminum pop rivets together with my aluminum frame parts. For steel I would use steel. Though I remember looking at the original rivets and thinking there's no way I could do that. I did try a mockup with hand hammering some aluminum, but that failed.

4) My window gap is so large I expect I will leave these seals out. The ones I have came from TTR.

Thanks, is there a UK supplier for the sealing strip?

I haven't seen one available, but don't know what I should be searching for.

you may use the Lotus Parts catalog to identify exactly what you're after (an online version is provided by http://www.rdent.com/manuals/ ), then Sue Miller would be a good, reliable source (easier to deal with on the phone like in the sixties)... or Kelsport
