S4 headlight system question

PostPost by: lotocone » Fri Aug 14, 2020 7:57 pm

My car is a Federal S4 with failsafe headlights with the single vacuum cylinder. How is tube that connects the headlight pods secured? I can't find a detail of this.

Is there a bolt at each of the tube that goes through the body bobbin (toward the center of the car) and then into the end of the tube and how is the bolt secured?

Thanks for any help on this. A picture or diagram would be great.

I had the same question and it was answered on this site a few months back. The inboard headlamp bucket mounting bolts are LONG. They extend through the bucket and bobbin and continue inboard to the hole in the end of the headlamp pivot tube. I think I used 2 inch bolts.Works great.

Unfortunately not shown in the workshop manual or in Brian Buckland book.

Dick, Thanks for the reply. I'll use a long bolt like you've done. Maybe some threadlocker too so the bolt won't back out over time.
