early plus 2 arm rest lid

PostPost by: bill griffiths » Fri May 29, 2020 4:24 am

Thanks to Frank I am now fitting the centre consol but first must attach the lid which was
donated by a wonderful fellow forum member!
It hinges from a raised area towards the rear of the consol and slightly overlaps the tray at the front.
However, if the hinge is bolted to the consol the lid, when opened it will put strain on the hinge area
unless limited in how far up it can go.
I can see no obvious way to limit its opening to avoid that and I do not recall the problem on my earlier Plus 2.
A spacer between the hinge and the consol will not work.
All I can thing of is to attach a short strop to the aluminium base and to attach the other end, with suitable
backing, under the console, in each case perhaps a couple of inched forward of the hinge.
Any other ideas?
Regards
Bill

Bill.
My car is a Jan 1968 and my lid also does not lay flat at max opening, so puts a small amount of strain on the hinge.
This was how it came out of the factory.

I have taken some photos that I will upload later, after I have reduced the size.

Many thanks, Trevor for your assistance.
I shall put a solid backing on the underside of the console where the hinge is mounted.
The consoles are too precious to damage and I shall put in a limiting strop if it later seems necessary.
Your interior looks perfect!
