Carpet How Much Do I Need?

I have an S4 FHC and hope to be replacing the carpet this summer.
I have found a supplier, in Australia, the carpet is one metre wide.
Has anyone done this job recently enough to remember how much carpet I need. Due to the distance, shipping and import charges, I want to avoid not having enough, but also do not want to waste money buying an excessive amount.

Don't forget to factor in which direction you want the pile to run, with the width and length.

Why not use Sue Miller?, she stocks carpet & has sets ready cut I believe.

I did mine years ago with cut pile, 8' wide. I used the old carpet to make paper patterns for cutting new sections. I used 12 square yards including covering the boot floor. That included ensuring the lay of the pile was the direction I wanted. I had less than a square yard in scraps. YMMV
There is no cure for Lotus, only treatment.

Chris,
The supplier is All Car Carpets Montrose Victoria, which I think is a suburb of Melbourne.
Rob,
I did not realise that the carpet looks different when viewed from different directions. How much extra should I allow?
Phil,
Sue can no longer supply loop pile carpet, and to my surprise I cannot find a UK supplier.
StressCraxx,
Sounds like 12 square yards should do the job. 12 metres of one metre wide should be a safe equivalent.
Thanks everyone for the help,
Richard Hawkins

Looks a bit thin though (5/32" ?) Anyone used it ?

Roger,
Martrim list loop pile, but cannot get anymore, and what stock they have is not as was originally used.

Scott,
I have written to your auto trim, asking them if they can export to the UK, and if they can supply a sample.
Thanks for the advice,
Richard Hawkins

Hi Richard,
My car had a variety of carpets in it so I'm not sure what was original except it was looped. The auto trim carpet is a slightly shiny nylon with rows of loops that are visible but not well defined.
There was another manufacturer/supplier, Auto Custom Carpet, that had a similar product. Black 601 nylon loop carpet. They may have a distributor closer to you.

May I add a few ideas to this specialist subject?
Idea #1 : Newton Commercial in Suffolk supply quite a lot of OE trim. Perhaps they could run up a carpet set ?They supply the correct boot Hardura finish: newtoncomm.co.uk. NC would be my first port of call (when I get closer to this stage) as recommended by Sue.
Idea # 2 : Fall back solutions (for my S1 1/2 project where the original floor material was a dark grey "elephant hide" plastic (not my cup of tea) I had in mind fitting a tough period correct type carpet similar to those fitted to the Porsche 356. I found a possible source with http://www.lakewell.com in Belgium.
BTW: I was also slightly surprised by the quantities given above. Is there a typo ?
I hope these ideas help.

When i made some Carpets for my TVR 3000M . I bought some Vinyl from Martrim and made some Piping to sew along edges of Footwell Carpets. Makes a nice finishing touch. Easy to do on old Singer sewing machine using a Walking Foot
