Door seals

PostPost by: diablo » Tue Apr 23, 2019 7:07 am

Where can I find the right door deals for my S4 FHC ? I mean the one which has a lip shape . I have bought seals from Sue Miller but they don't fit well , too thick ; too much pressure on the doors and difficulties to close them .I saw similar seals on other Lotus supplier website and i am afraid they will not suite . Last week end , on our mensual meeting in Le Touquet , I saw an Elan S3 DHC with lip shape door seals ; but the owner cannot help me , he bought his car like that .Any suggestion welcome
Cheers you all

Unfortunately no one makes the original style seal any longer. There may possibly be a few NOS old ones left out there but they?ll be hens teeth. I found a company that thought they might be able to remanufacture though there were problems in getting it spot on however they wanted a minimum order of 10,000 metres. That?s enough for around 1450 Elans - just totally uneconomic.

There has been plenty of threads on this subject and lots of different suggestions for alternatives.

I?ve been looking for door trim for my FHC for years without success. The trim I bought from Matty?s (I think) years ago is close but too thick round the hinge area so the door had to be slammed shut - not a good idea. To ease the pressure I cut a foot or so of it out. The door now shuts ok but with a section of trim missing. Woolies 265A looks like the right section but millimeters count with this stuff. At ?4.00 / metre though it?s worth a try.

I recall that they are the same section seals on Austin 1100 series cars.

However they are now even rarer than Elans......

I believe that?s correct Richard as you say not many left and doubt any of them would be long enough for a DHC.

I think I am going to try one of the seals from Woolies (265A or 113). The bulb on the seal from MacGregor is too large for my car. My S3 came with a double lip seal, and I am sure it was too much seal for the doors.
