sun visor / sunvisor foam rubber replacement ?

PostPost by: crypto » Sun Jun 10, 2018 2:43 pm

My sun visor is rusted and things are not really moveable anymore. As anyone a good source for the foam inside ? Furthermore I'm trying to find a solution to keep the blade in its position ?

Cheers Peter

I was able to crimp the tube, in several spots, that slides over the 'hanger' and that was enough to keep
the visor in any position I want.

How do you replace the cover?
I shied away from refitting mine because the foam had gone brittle and I couldn't see how they could be refurbished.
I seem to recall asking Susan Miller and she hadn't got a solution.

Mine was a wrinkled old mess that was falling apart, ( we're talking visors here... :) ).

I decided to start anew and needed a material that would be reasonably forgiving if I was to smack my head on it.
So no hard stuff like aluminium etc.
It needed to be stiff enough, and if it had a nice molded edge then so much the better.

I found something, glued some vinyl to it, and the photos show the result, ( and where it originated from  ).

Ralph.

There is a guy "I think" making new ones. There were at least two sets on ebay around a month ago... sold for lots of dosh; close to?400 I think for the Sprint. There will probably be more drip fed into the market.
cheers

I keep thinking what I will I do when mine become unusable. I think what I will do is fill them with new foam from an insulation specialist. They have two part foams that will cure in an enclosed space. To make it work, I think a wood frame to house the limp visor and hardware at the correct thickness and orientation, with a spray access hole into the bag, and then I expect a result like new.

You could probably DIY with some expanding foam from a spray can.
They have a long nozzle to start at back and draw out.
