Hi Len

The gold leaf colour scheme was only available on the Sprint, 1971-1973.
Deciding what colours exactly are legitimate on a 69 S4 is not easy, but I suggest you have a look in the book of Ross and Robinshaw, who have tried to compile a list. There are some colours which are certain, but others are not. Apparently some Elans sold as kits were painted by dealers in the shade the buyer specified, so there may be colours which do not show up in sales literature but are original nonetheless.

regards
Jolly

The home page right here has colour information. Look under technical tips on the left side of the screen. ps; I don't recommend Burnt Sand.

Burnt sand and Bahama yellow has only listed as Plus 2 only.

Nevertheless, my car (68 s4) was originally burnt sand.

You can give Mr Powfret at Lotus Cars a call. He keeps a register of all cars incl info on original colour.

Any one out there with picturs of a Pistachio car?

I do not have a picture of Pistachio car, but I have seen some and I can assure you the baby Elan looks very nice in that shade, especially as a Sprint with the Gold stripe and white lower half. Looks very special.

There is a comprehensive list of Lotus paint codes at <a href='http://www.elanfactory.com.au/pdf/technical_information/Lotus%20Paint%20Codes.pdf' target='_blank'>http://www.elanfactory.com.au/pdf/technica...int%20Codes.pdf</a>

Hope this is helpful

The best looking Elan that I have evr seen was not painted in a standard colour at all, it was a metallic "dark silver", the nearest colour I know to this is Ferrari's titanium paint.
This colour really showed off the curves of the car, if it had been available in '68, they would have used it!

Cheers,

Pete
(boring Yellow/White Sprint).
