Front Seatbelt mounting plate, +2

Hopefully an easy question. I'm just sorting out hardware to mount the retractor for +2 front belts. I've replaced the main plate. The car had a further 3/16" (3 x 3 1/2") steel plate in here when I dismantled it. Is this required/ original fitting? I suspect this was a PO MOT repair... But it may be there for any unfortunate high load event.

Mine doesn't have it on either side. Just seat belt, bolt and the wheel arch brackets. It also not shown in the parts diagram:

Yep.. similar diagrams in the workshop manual.. parts list is very vague.. described as a kit... Seeking second/third/... opinion...I think it was a repair by PO... So thank you for the speedy response

You'd want some kind of steel backing plate to distribute the load as much as possible. In a hard crash you could easily see 2000 lb at the outer anchorages and 4000 lb on the buckle.
In one of Ford's first crash tests in the 50's they bolted the seatbelts to the floor pan and the belts just ripped out - or so an oldtimer told me 30 years ago. Could be true.

RichC,
That is entirely possible.. I originally had the Irwin dynalock retractor with a "U" shaped bracket. The bracket is pretty thin material (1-2mm ?)... I still have all of this so will look if it has the three holes.
However, I am changing the retractor for a modern unit so it won't go together exactly the same.

My belts have a combined spreader plate / nut as in pictures attached.
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine!

Just for info, my original plates looked ok till I cleaned the underseal off!

Hi wotsisname,
I realise its a few months back, but I'm in the process of gathering together all the parts to refurbish and refit a set of Irvin Dynalocks to my Plus 2.
I lobbed the original set it had in the bin when I bought it in 1983...which I now regret.
It's had Securons on it ever since which function OK but I'm slowly undoing some of the "improvements" I've made to it over the years.
One part I still need is one of the U shape brackets you posted a picture of - so if it's spare or not needed it would be great if we could come to an arrangement! (and of course if you haven't already lobbed it in the bin! So if you've still got it please let me know.
Richard

Rich,
That would be fab! - Yes it's just the one U shape cradle I'm after, like Wotsisname showed in the picture.
I've got one of them and most of the other bits I need, so I'd really appreciate it if you could go searching!
Many thanks
Richard
