Window lift cable special fasteners.

PostPost by: alexblack13 » Sat May 20, 2017 9:47 am

Hello guys.

Trust you are all well.

A quick update. .... I am still under treatment for the Prostate cancer and holding my own.So far so good. Had a few ticker issues a year or so ago and we discovered I now have a leaky and noisy heart valve. This causes some Atrial fibrillation which is very uncomfortable and very tiring too.

So that's where I am health wise.

Car wise ? I don't have any lotus right now but had a fancy for an M 100 elan just as a toy. So I might start looking seriously quite soon.

REASON for this post. One of our guys asked me to make some special window lift cables / rope fasteners which take out the risk of breaking ones glass and also makes fitting the system simpler. Now. Our said member informed me that the said items (package) had not arrived.. The good old Postal service had lost the things... Sheesh... So I made him another 4 from my now very dwindled stock of bits and also snapped my last special coated M4 tap!! However I managed it. Then. Guess what? the originals were eventually delivered. (Some 1st class service that eh?!!). Sooooooo... I now have a set of 4 fasteners available. 1 set only. I could possibly make another two sets also if any needed.

Editor => Alex is no longer providing the cable tools due to health reasons.

Just get in touch.

Al' ....

Alex,

Great to hear from you again. Get that M100 toy!

To anybody who hasn't taken advantage of Alex's wonderful window fasteners, now's your chance. Heck, I should buy another Elan just to use them. :D

I already have a set thanks... Though one window has not got them fitted yet as that one has not needed to be repaired/maintained since before I got the bits from Alex.

Did you ever post full details of components used and what to do to make them, so that someone else with a lathe could take on the task? I don't expect M100's need them :D

PS: I have Atrial Fibrillation and warfarin medicine nowadays too and as you say it is very tiring; I plod very slowly up steps, especially those exits from the Tube stations.

Great to hear from both Alex and Bill,

Hearing your problems makes me feel good after only coming 8th in the local 10KM run (70+ class), I thought I was having a bad day. Keep those tickers going chaps!

Hi Guys,

Do bear in mind my enthusiasm for raising some funding for my fav charities..

I hardly ever miss a chance. This little batch of orders 7 enquiries and 5 sets of fasteners ordered.
So 5 sets ordered and paid for means ?100 for Gosh. :D

This is on top our our monthly donation this month.

Proud of you all. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

I have parts to make I think another two poss' three sets.

Irony... Stopped near our local BHF shop with two boxes of 'things' after a loft clear out and came back to a ?60.00 parking charge!

Ah well.

I would be very interested to buy a set. I replaced the cables about 3 years ago and didn't tighten them enough out of fear of breaking the glass and they have slipped so I need to repeat the job which I wasn't looking forward to .
Can you let me know how and who to pay and I'll let you know the address.
Thanks

Alex,
I received my set today. Fantastic bit of work and such a great idea.

Refitting my S4 windows is no longer a daunting prospect 8)

If anyone wants to have a look and is going to Castle Combe this weekend I will bring them with me to demonstrate. I'm bringing my Blue +2 SKK 992G, I look a bit like my avatar with Raybans and stripey shirt, although this weekends stripes will be horizontal!
Kindest regards

Remember guys.. Don't overtighten the 4mm center grub screws in your fasteners, With center boring the m6 stainless button heads and then also cross drilling them they are not as strong as they were,

Just use enough torque to hold the ropes firmly don't damage the ropes either.

Use either fibre washers or rubber washers / o rings either side of the glass and just gently nip up the Nylock half nuts enough to grip the glass firmly.

DONT GO NUTS....

Thanks again all. Some new payments in again so some more dosh en route to GOSH too.... :D

All the best...

Alex is no longer able to supply these items due to health reasons. The Lotus community will need to find a new supplier for this.

I have some of Alex’s fasteners - destined for the passenger side window when the winding cable next requires attention or replacement.
I would be willing to lend one to someone who has the necessary skill and is willing to copy to make up a batch for Elan.net members.
I trust Alex would be agreeable with this.
Obviously, I need a return guarantee!
