Door Lamps - Voltage Problem ?

Hi all,
I have a problem, or perhaps not.... I have cleaned up and tested my door switches, thats those two little push switches inside the doorjam on a plus2. I have tested the circuits and have a good clean current though the system.
They actually work for my internal 'courtesy' lamps, but for some reason the door 'warning' lamps (those red inserts inside the inner edge of the door) do not,
using the same switches, they work fine for the courtesy lamps.
Voltage at the red door lamps is about 6 volts, but on the courtesy it is what i expected; 12volts
should the door lamps be 6 volts ?
do i need different bulbs ?
is the door lamp relay knackered ?
thanks for reading
