Sprint door lock screws

PostPost by: silverlink » Mon Jul 07, 2014 8:52 am

Can anyone tell me the size of the eight countersunk screws that hold the door locks in place (see photo) the Lotus part number from the Elan parts book is KUFS 0412. I've worked out from the letters Lotus use that they are UNF.
I want to replace them with stainless ones

Purely from the part number I'd guess they were Fine thread 1/4" * 3/4". I believe the number refer to the width and length measured in 1/16. So 04 is 4/16 = 1/4, 12 = 12/16 = 3/4.

This is all from vague memories of how the numbering system worked. Have you not got one you could measure?

Thanks for info,
I understand a bit more clearly from what you say, at least now I know what to ask for. I think I have an old one somewhere so I'll measure it.
Cheers

If you want, I will measure mine when I get home next week. Meanwhile, my drivers side door latch button has failed and, from the diagrams I've seen, the problem looks to be the wire which connects the button to the latch assembly. The interior door release pull works fine. What's the procedure to replace the wire?

Hopefully managed to find some stainless ones at Spalding Fasteners via Ebay so ordered a pack of ten (?8-50) although a bit longer than mine I'll cut them down to 3/4". I am told I should use some special coating/grease on the screws as stainless can react with other metals and weld itself to them!

Been a while but can you remember the Spalding reference for the screws?
