melon, just finished doing this job myself....took the old shelf out and traced it out on paper...tranferred that to some pressboard..cut it out ...fit some black vinyl i bought at a fabric store....cheap...and stapled it all around....fit it back under the rear clips...took a piece of L shaped trim molding and wraped it in vinyl..glued it up fit it to the top edge and bingo... new shelf...looks great !!

If you are making yourself a new parcel shelf and not too worried about originality you could always put in a couple of large grommets etc to make access to the rear suspension mounts easier. Otherwise if making a new parcel shelf and scuttle? (bulkhead) just remember to make sure they are easily removable.
If by scuttle you mean the rear bulkhead pressed bit of board. I made myself a new one for my Sprint FHC they are very straight forward to do.
I made one from aluminium and added extra holes so you can fit harnesses.
