ACF-50 Corrosion Inhibitor

PostPost by: stuartgb100 » Wed Oct 21, 2009 4:45 pm

Quite by chance I came across ACF-50 (see www.acf-50.co.uk).
It's an American product.

Not cheap, but gives 12 months protection.
Approx ?15 for a 13oz aerosol can.

I see there was an elannet thread in 2007, but nothing more.

I'm inclined to try this on the chassis before this winter sets in.

Has anyone experience of the product <

Regards,
Stuart.

I've used it for the last couple of years on my classic bikes to try and keep rust at bay over the winter. They're kept in a "dry" garage - dry in that it doesn't leak but humidity is the enemy. It's worked very well for that and one can just about did five bikes last year.
It's a thin liquid - think wd40 - so if you use the car over the winter it may well get washed off. A bucket of soapy water and a sponge got it off the bikes in the spring.

Hmmm,

Someones's pointed me to Ardrox AV 25, a similar product, but which dries to a waxy finish.
This may last better.

Research required.

Hi Stuart,

I use stuff called Carcoon CSP fluid which has lasted well:

http://www.bikebubble.co.uk/products.asp

I sprayed it the lockheed servo (particularly the bare cast bits) when I installed it about 3 years ago and they still look like new. Also used it on the TTR driveshafts as they were starting to show signs of corrosion and they are still fine too after a wire brush and a spray of this stuff. I doesn't seem to wash off and you can spray it everywhere (even on brake disks).

About a fiver for a can if I remember correctly,

Cheers

Robbie
