Paint colour to boot area

PostPost by: stuartgb100 » Sat Oct 03, 2009 5:28 am

Having hopefully got to the bottom of a fuel problem, I'd like to tidy up the boot area before putting the tank back in.
Can someone confirm paint colours for the area under the boot tray and for the tank itself, please ?

My tank is currently black gloss, and the tray/spare wheel well area is black matt.

Thanks.

Regards,
Stuart.

HI Stuart

I am not an origanallity nut and do things as I like them to look. That said I have seen one or two boots painted matt black only where you can see. Once the fuel tank was out you could see Lotus didn't waste paint under it. Most others are all matt black as is the case with 26/4020. My white 70 coupe was painted and when the paint had hardened I covered the whole of the freshly painted Elan with tape and paper and blacked out the engine bay, boot, wheel arches and undertray with black base coat Without any clear over it and got the following effect in the boot.

I have seen mostly gloss black fuel tanks (with rust on the bottom)

Thanks Gary.

Not necessarily originality for me, either.
Just wondered if there was any commonality.

Methinks I prefer matt black throughout.

Regards and thanks,
Stuart.
