Front chassis dimensions

PostPost by: John Larkin » Wed Apr 16, 2008 4:46 pm

My Lotus workshop manual (Elan S3) gives two different dimensions for the distance between the centrelines of the left and right pivot studs for the lower front wishbones --- 556.26 mm and 551.18 mm. It also gives different values for the horizontal distance between the centrelines of the studs for the upper wishbones and the studs for the lower wishbones on each side --- 72.64 mm and 75.184 mm.

Can anybody shed some light on these discrepancies?

I have attached two scans of the relevant sections from the workshop manual.

Hi John,
My workshop manual (Oct '72 issue) shows the same dimensions on both of the drawings albeit to fewer decimal places:-

Section C Front suspension Page 5....... 551.18 and 75.184mm
Section A Chassis Page 2................... 551.2 and 75.2mm

Don't know if this helps

Also, regarding your other posting on rack mount shims - if you do a search of the archive there are a number of previous threads on the subject with lots of helpful info.

Best regards,
Roger

Suspension geometry different on early cars.I presume one set is early chassis and other later chassis.

Not sure which is which without doing some calculations
