Bonnet Latch Dimmensions

PostPost by: DJThom » Fri Jun 22, 2007 11:58 am

Hi All:

I'm working on getting my bonnet latch cables installed. Question: how close should the ltop of the atches be to the firewall when the cables are pulled to their fullest extent?

I'm trying to use nylock nuts to prevent loosening, but they take up a lot of room and I don't think I have the required stroke to release the bonnet.

This isn't one of those things you want to get wrong!!!

thx

Darren,

When I positioned mine, it was on a new front end so I had nothing to go by.

I did it by measurement and estimation of the correct position. It's not too difficult because you can have quite a bit of vertical adjustment.

It is important to make sure they sit nicely in the centre of the bonnet catch points.

From memory I think full nylocks would be much too thick to allow enough travel. The standard nuts with shake-proof washers are fine anyway.

Certainly on my car I need the full travel to release the bonnet

I personally wouldn't rely too much on measurements from other cars because Elans are all different.

Very nice piccy of the standard nuts and washers added (above) while I was writing this.

:D
