I spoke to the ebay guy today, he says he can weld studs onto the back so I am going to order a set and see. The french ones are beautiful but I think the hassle of changing them, or getting pulled over, is not worth it. I will let you know how I get on with the stainless ones.

Hmmm,
Just checked my plus 2 130/5 and it was registered in October 1973.
It's passed all it's MOT's....
and still has it's original letters on the front grill though I have recently replaced the original white letters on black number plate at the rear. I believe it was built about August 1973.
Your MOT man is on an unjustified 'jobs worth' mission to change your car from how it was originally built.
I'm afraid I don't have any respect them at all - I recently purchased a newly MOT'd 175mph car but on checking it over myself in the garage at home, I found the brake pads on both front calipers had come detached from the backing plate. "oh that does happen since pads are no longer rivetted to the backing plate and it's not part of the MOT to remove wheels to check the pads" (it also wasn't discovered on the pre MOT service either - same place wouldn't you guess it!)
So it seems that you can be made to change your number plate to something different to what the car was manufactured with but it doesn't matter that you are killed (and possibly kill someone else) by something so trivial as brake pads which drop out. Isn't that typical of anything which is operated by government bodies.
And finally the moral is to carefully pick where you get your car MOT'd and serviced as despite my criticism I have found there to be some very good ones about so hurrah to them.

Arrived today ! Give me a chance to fit them (tomorrow hopefully) and I will sort out some photos. They do look good though.
?1.70 each plus postage, with M5 studs on the back which just fit in the existing mesh.

Your five's higher than your nine. Start again.
Seriously, thanks for sending the contact details. I am also really happy with mine. Ten mins to fix. Bob's yer uncle. And my V lines up with my 3!

I am now an ex-Elan owner but will drop by from time to time with some suitably inappropriate comments.
