Putting the Seats In.

PostPost by: DJThom » Mon Nov 20, 2006 6:05 pm

A quick question about putting the seats in. Does the adjustment mechanism bar that holds the seat in sit in the groove in front of the bobbins or the groove behind the bobbins? Or can it go in either one depending upon what adjustment you want?

Also, what does the bracket look like that holds the bar in the groove? On a familiar theme, these weren't with the car when I bought it...

Thx

Use either groove depending on how long your legs are

The seat bar goes in either groove, allowing for close and (relatively) distant adjustment ranges. The brackets - let's see - viewed from the side, the bracket is about four or five inches long. It starts with a 90 degree curved section that fits over and traps the seat bar in the groove, then there is a flat section with a hole drilled into it where the bolt secures it to the bobbin, and finally it curves down 90 degrees and then turns back up 180 degrees, forming a curve that fits into the groove not occupied by the seat bar. There are a couple of stiffening ribs in the flat section.

I love the sound of a torque wrench in the morning. Sounds like... progress.

Darren,
I have posted some photos of the brackets in the photos section of the Lotus Elan Yahoo Autos site.

Hi Darren,
Just a note of caution. If you have long legs and a Safety Devices cage. the back of the seat will foul the cage before you get max rear adjustment, so you'll have to squish forward a bit...
