rattling windows

I have sourced new "whisker strips" from Dave Bean - can anyone tell me if there is a way to install these without having to completely dismantle the door/window mechanism?

There is no way you can install the strips without dismantling your window frame out of the door. The window operating system (cables, etc.) can be left in place.
Be sure you use 5 new clips per strip!
