Wow! We just had a hurricane (Katrina) pass directly over us, (Slidell LA.) and we as well as the Elan are fine. Be quite a shame for a car like this to get smushed by weather..well. no problems.
We'll be back to working on her as soon as we get things cleaned up here,(we're only 2 miles from the coast, we got VERY lucky) and will be taking all the carb advice we have gotten before the storm.
Be back as soon as we have something to tell.
Thanks

Hello list. The hurricane has passed, my son's home from college for the holidays and NOW we get to work on the Elan once again.
First question. Where's the BEST place to put jackstands under this car? I know that sounds weird, but it's not shown in any of our books, and we sure don't want to find out the hard way that we put them in what LOOKED like a good place, but was not.
We're starting to rebuild the clutch and brake masters as well as the clutch slave and all the brake systems this week. We got the pedal box off tonight and were suprised that we had to cut off the forward brake line between the 5-way and the master. Would NOT come off otherwise. Anyone else had to deal with that? The nipple is quite long, and there does not seem to be enough room for the line to make the 90 degree turn between the masters to the 5-way..man, this car's got everything packed in! I guess it would be possible to take it off WITH the master, but that would mean taking it off further down the line, and that seems to me to be quite a hassle. Ideas? Also, I'm still looking for the info on the GM electric headlight system. Anyone have a URL? IS there anyone close to New Orleans who HAS a plus 2? We're trying hard to get this car under it's own power by the end of Jan.
Thanks

Greetings, as for jackstand use, there is a previous listing on how to jack and support Elans. Generally speaking, the front of the chassis is ok, the rear not ok. Most importantly, don't support the car at the rear on the A frames, (wishbones,) of course the easiest and most accessable. They bend and throw the alignment outta whack. I've made wooden blocks that fit between the stands and car. Best place for rear support is out on the hub bearing/strut base. The manuals show jacking out on the rocker panel edge, this scares me and I've never tried it. A long board placed full width under the car in front of the rear wheels and shimmed so it meets the chassis in the middle for more support can aid in putting jackstands under the fiberglass, otherwise I'd only use chassis/suspension components for lifting. Good luck and be careful.

Hello list.
First of all, I wish to think all who replied. It has been a big help.
Alas the car has become an orphan. My son has lost intrest, and the car sits. Anyone out there want a '70 +2? Will sell fairly to a good home.
