Dash panel / column problem

Hello Roger
Thanks for the Triumph diagram, and no I did not have a spring clip fitted when I disassembled the dash and column. As for the Lotus parts book, I will have to take another look and see how many other bits may have been omitted,.Having said that I see from your diagram that the column is in one piece and does not have the safety clamp towards the bottom. By that I mean the collapsible column. So do you know if this diagram is an earlier column or whether the clip referred to was also fitted on the later Elan type column.

Hi Tony,
The diagram I posted is for a Triumph Vitesse, chosen only to illustrate the spring clip which is not shown on the Elan parts diagram, it shows only the outer column not the inner shaft you refer to. Sorry for any confusion.

Tony,
There's a bit more info and photos on this old topic viewtopic.php?t=23330&p=145093
My S4 has the clip and the trim is also cut away, TBH I thought they were all like that.
Mike

Thanks again everyone for the replies.
It seems these clips are a little harder to get as Rimmers no longer keep them, but if you look secondhand at Spitfire/Vitesse specialists there may be better news. I understand they were also fitted to the TR4A but possibly not TR5/6/7 so that may also be another source.
However it seems also from the responses so far that this clip is essential to the tightness of the column in its mounting.
