Boot lid

ooh that's a long shot ! I'd wager the metal strut that runs along the rear panel is missing or bent out of shape or not riveted to the GRP.... there should be a pop rivet at each end of the metal strut thru the GRP visible behind each light cluster

Mine doesn?t have a bar across the boot at the top of the rear panel, it?s only got the one that supports the boot floor, what should it be like?

It looks like a piece of angle iron. Some pictures of mine here (although it is carpeted): lotus-chassis-f36/tidying-the-boot-t40916.html#p286493

the alignment of one of those hinges looks pretty scary: how can it take those 10degrees? sandy

When I took my top brace out, the 4 bolts that mount the brace also went through the boot felt padding before going through the vertical back wall of the boot. Whether this was original I can't say but it looked l original. The felt was compressed very tightly at that point. When I reinstalled the brace without the padding it didn't seem to cause any real alignment issues for the boot lid. I left the padding out because it didn't seem right to have the bolts in shear with the padding in the mix.

My brace bolts were through the sound insulating padding too.
