Nothing I enjoy more than a good root on a Sunday afternoon......

Well from the Lotus Position with my head down in the driver footwell I can see plenty of daylight at the points at which pretty much every component passes through the firewall.
Steering column - no grommet
Heater hose - no grommet
Temp gauge - grommet perished
Speedo cable - grommet perished
Handbrake assembly - no grommet
So that could explain it then
Inspection hole in central tunnel has no grommet but it's gaffer taped so should be ok.
I'll order an assortment of rubber grommets and fit them when I come to change out any of these.
Meanwhile I'll sugro up the gaps and fit a new boot seal and what happens.
Will report back, many thanks all.

Circling back folks. I fitted a new boot seal and sugru'd up as many of the bulkhead gaps as I could et voila! Eau d'Engine is no more!
If I had to guess I'd say it was the leaky bulkhead which was the culprit over the boot.
Thanks all
Literally couldn't run and enjoy my Elan without this forum.

Think I'll get some Sugru myself!
p.s. Check out the website, it's quite an inspiring story
Looks great. I wonder if it will fix a cracked rotoflex.
