Thanks Brian that's the one I had at the Lotus parts fair and a certain Lotus guru told me categorically it was too big. If I want answers I'll stick with elan.net in future.
Thanks again for the scans.

The picture posted by oldelanman shows the jack with a "gizmo" which is an adapter to fit the sill.
I have the basic jack but not the gizmo.
Could you post a few pictures so I can make one?
Thanks
Bruce
PS where does evryone keep the jack? Mine ends up just lying on the boot carpet! It would be nice to store it somewhere tidy and also safe - so it can't move about in the boot with the chance of dinging the paint work from inside the boot

Bruce, I'd raised the topic of jack location a little while ago, on this thread. Sadly no definitive answers !

Hi Bruce,
The original jack stows where Brian has shown his and is held snugly in place by the spare wheel. As for the cradle part it's basically just a trough 173mm long x 50mm wide at the bottom opening up to 60mm at the top. Sides are 15mm deep and the material is 2mm thick. It's secured to the jack platform by a large countersunk rivet which allows rotation. There is a peg welded to one side 8mm dia x 45mm long and this is to limit rotation so that the jack cannot end up at right angles to the car where it could tip up at full height. pm me if you need any more info.
All the best.

There is a lot of information in this thread, which answers the queries I had in another thread. Thank you all.

You are right. The original hammer was made of a lead/tin alloy called babbitt. It is used in plain bearings for rotating and recip machinery, including our engine bearing shells.
There is no cure for Lotus, only treatment.

Does this look like the original mallet ? It's been in my toolbox for years but I can't remember where it came from.

Roger,
What is the size of the square section drive, or rather the hole in the ratchet...and overall ratchet handle length?
Thanks - Richard

Thanks Andy,
I've never had a Lotus type jack, but I asked because I have a ratchet handle in RED! (that I got from somewhere?) ...it may be the same as Lotus supplied but I don't know.
I see you are trying to get one. If you get stuck, you are welcome to have it...complete with paint chips...I mean patina!
Cheers - Richard

Sorry, a bit late replying but dimensions are the same as your red one.
