Just like that! Thanks!

I hate to ask, but would you mind holding a ruler next to the stripe? I think I can calculate it from the width of the sill strip, but it would be nice to have a point of reference - thanks.

Years ago I owned 45/6217, a September '66 car, it was on a Cheshunt plate. I lived in north London at the time and I remember driving over to the old Lotus factory and thinking 'this is where my car was built', I'm now quite sure that it's a Norfolk car and as we discussed they were just using the chassis plates up.

We`ll get scolded for going off topic like this.
My S3SE 45/6986 has a cheshunt plate and was registered on 11 September 1967,

Final bit of off-topicness: the July '68 S3 Coup? that I no longer own (36/7755) also had a Cheshunt VIN plate. And my attempt to get back on topic is to say that I took the photograph shown in the original post...

Hi John, how are you doing? When are you going to buy an Elan again so I can follow it in Octane?

It's bubbling just below the surface in my mind. Maybe one day, but prices are moving out of reach. It always happens to me - cars' values seem to rise just after I sell them. Meanwhile, if I need an Elan fix I can always have a drive in the car featured at the start of this thread: bodily horrible (if wonderfully original), mechanically excellent.

Jeff at JAE managed to leave me speachless by finding these NOS sidewinders in his stores; what's more he was very reasonable with his pricing.

Jeff if you're reading this - thank you!

Happy Easter to one and all.

After looking at the photos posted on this thread and by reading the information on the back of the sidewinders, I think these decals were made in the US in 1970, they are damned close, but the Union flag is slightly larger on these decals. Perhaps they were made by a US dealer for accident repair work? I don't mind, I'm still delighted with them...now all I need is an S3 to fit them to...watch this space :)
