Appears to be more like a "mission" on your part...keep up the good work!

I've decided to make it my life's work ........it really is seriously annoying and seems to crop up more frequently nowadays

Precisely
Or "Elan" and "Plus 2"
Or "Elan" and "Elan +2"
Or "Elan" and "Elan Plus 2"
We on the Lotus Elan forum, should not use or encourage the use of "Baby Elan" (Yuk!) or +0 (nearly as bad)
Apologies for the thread hijack but this is really annoying.
I propose that anyone using either term in future are given a prompt virtual slap
Unfortunately your thesis ignores common usage of the English language.
The original Elan, The Elan plus 2 and the M100 Elan are all sub-members of the class of car called Elan so any could be referred to as an Elan, however as we well know, that then introduces an ambiguity as to whether you mean an original 2-seater Elan or any Elan.
So some form of distinguishing Elan from Elan is occasionally needed.

Yes and this simply achieved by Elan, Elan Plus Two and Elan M100..... simple and to the point.
Maybe its time to resurrect this poll, it is still open and if I could I would make it a sticky.

Precisely again
There is no confusion, there is only one Elan and the same will apply when Lotus (whoever they are these days) churn out some other high tech, over complicated, over-powered contraption and decide to call it Elan.

Sigh, you can make as many rules about elan names as you like, but newcomers to the forum will tend to come knowing English language, not lotuselan.net speak, so it won't work for them.
Personally if you look over my past messages you will see that I tend to say Two-Seater Elan if I want to be absolutely clear that I mean the original Elan type.
~~~~~~~~~~
So how would you write the following sentence in lotuselan.net speak:
"All the 1960-1970's Elans had a Lotus Twin-Cam engine."
Where it was referring to both the Elan and the Elan plus 2.
Surely, in that example, where the subject is "referring to both the Elan and the Elan plus 2" it would appear under "Things in Common", wouldn't it?
If so, it wouldn't need any colloquialisms, or other shorthand, to discriminate between them...
Deep sigh
I would write it as it's written, the meaning is clear.
It's not about "rules" Bill, I was merely hoping to discourage the annoying, unnecessary and meaningless use of the phrase "Baby Elan" and yes, also +0, especially on a classic Lotus Elan forum where frankly we ought to know better.
How very dare you!
Please bear in mind that's an advert and anything goes in ad's
Think they are trying to emphasise the totty pulling power of an Elan ....sex sells don't ya know
If you are using it as an example of accuracy may I draw your attention to "Coachbuilders paint standards"
I own a 60's elan and a 90's elan. The other elan I refer to as a four seater elan.
At least that is how I explain it to other people. To those that know me it is the white one or the green one.
If I refer to them as baby elan and M100 elan, people look at me as though I tuck my vest into my underpants. So I don't do it anymore.
Do you think I will get the same look if I fit a tow bar? or will I just get a sympathetic look when I explain that it won't pull a caravan
