Very informative. thanks.

I note from a previous post (above), that you used PPG for the primer and Glassurit 22 Line, urethane acrylic, and no clear coat.
This was in 2007.

Was this your completed paint system?
Was there any reason that you did not complete the paint system in PPG?
What was the reason for the selection of Glassurit?

Did get all products from same supplier so could be sure about compatibility and they advised me a bunch along the way--went with Galsurit because they had mix specified for Lotus Carnival Red (it was my car's factory color) no other manufacturer had recipe--didn't want to guess or be more creative; further trying to be true to original, but not to the point of nitrocellulose!, did not want to go with clear coat although was told I could do that on the urethane, max 2 coats. Yea I actually bought first batch of paint in 2000 probably, sat for a long time, still good and used it on the bottom (I flipped shell over and did bottom nearly as well as top, did sills then too and wheel wells) then needed more and in 2007 bought 22 Line, the current iteration of the Glasurit urethane, and finished spraying car this past May. My +2 is also Carnival Red and will be re sprayed that colour.
I've downloaded many paint specs, now its time to select the paint system and buy all the necessary materials.

Good luck with it, as you can see my timetable was way off and had paint for a while on the shelf, then only ended up having enough for two coats in the end of the color---wanted to shoot three but it seems the primers before were worked enough and the conditions were good enough that not so much color sanding needed. Back on the road exactly 20 years and 2 months since she was last there.
It's been nearly 11 years since I've sprayed it. :shock:

Well looks fantastic, and as I look at this thread it’s now been 11 years that I’ve had the paint on my car and while it has been indoors, it still looks gorgeous so you’ll enjoy it for a long time, great job Gordon Sauer

Has anyone done a plastic wrap on an Elan as a way of avoiding steep respray prices and probably reduce the chance of gell coat crazing appearing on the surface. Most people can get the body ready for the final finish without going to nasty unhealthy 2K products, it's the final colour and gloss that is more difficult for DIY ers. Pretty well all German Taxi's are wrapped from the outset and it seems to last well.
